I may have a small shopping problem. And to be honest its not my fault. We have a shopping center in town that has all of my favorite stores in one place. Target, Old Navy, Hobby Lobby, Barnes and Noble.. and World Market. Oh World Market how I love you. [Not that I dont love the others.. please dont be offended other stores.]
And if we are being honest here, my World Market is the hands down best. The staff is always so friendly and their displays are perfect. Like I want to hire one of them to come to my house perfect.
I was challenged to create a Santa Fe inspired dinner for two using ingredients from World Market. And of course the first place I stop is the wine. Why? Its just habit really. World Market opened in my town around the time I turned 21 and I always felt really cool buying my own wine. So I always start at the wine.
I love walking the food aisles and looking at cuisine from different countries. Its so interesting to see what people from other cultures eat and drink.
I was in World Market for over 2 hours. Not because I didnt know what I wanted to buy for the meal, but because I want to make sure Ive seen everything in the store. I dont want to miss any of it. Buying the ingredients for the meal was the easy part, getting out of World Market without everything in my cart was the hard part.
I made a brie and peach salsa cracker for an appetizer. Brie is such a great cheese, it pairs well with almost everything. I smeared a little on a piece of mini toast and then put some peach salsa on top. Heaven.
For the main course I made chicken poblano corn chowder and added some sweet potato tortilla chips instead of crackers. I cut my chicken [with poultry scissors. Word to the wise.. buy poultry scissors.] into small pieces and browned it in a pan. I followed the instructions on the back of the bag for the corn chowder. The only thing I changed was adding a can of cream of poblano to give it a little more flavor.
And this is our spread! I am so in love with everything on that table. The only parts that did not come from World Market are the table runner, silverware and the wooden pot holders under the candles.
The crackers and brie were perfect. The candles were perfect. The mini pumpkins that hid the sweet potato tortilla chips were perfect.
And of course the wine was perfect. I bought a Moscato because thats all I buy. It doesnt go with the meal, but its my favorite and it was perfect.
Husband did not find this as funny as I did.
Oh no, I didnt forget dessert. I grabbed some cranberry dark chocolate and have been slowly eating it ever since. And by slowly I mean its already gone. Guess Ill have to make another trip to World Market. [Shucky darn.]
