Easy Homemade Recipes: Pumpkin Spice Chai Latte

I’m not sure if you know this about me, but – I love pumpkin.  And a I think a lot of people do to because pumpkins are everywhere, in everything.  There is this little place called Starbucks that makes a coffee drink with pumpkin in its name!  I mean, seriously!  Pumpkin plus coffee equals the most beautiful, calm, sleep through the night bundle of joy ever!  [Yes, Im still talking about coffee.]  Sometimes though, I can’t just jump in the car and spend $5 a pop on a coffee.  [As much as I would like to.]  So I decided to create my own easy homemade recipe and forgo the coffee shop.  Behold my pumpkin and caffeine loving friends – the pumpkin spice chai latte has arrived.

Pumpkin spice chai latte. Perfect way to start fall!

I have your attention now, huh?  Let me reassure you, this is the most amazing drink – ever.  And its pretty simple to make too.  You will need:

  • 1/2 cup Chai Latte Mix
  • 1 Tablespoon Pumpkin Puree
  • 1/2 cup Half and Half
  • dash of Pumpkin Pie Spice
  • Homemade Whipped Cream

Bring the chai latte mix and the half and half to a boil in a small saucepan.  Add the pumpkin and mix until blended.  Mix in some pumpkin pie spice and let boil for another 20 seconds or so.  Pour into a coffee cup, add your homemade whipped cream and enjoy!  [Side note - homemade whipped cream is heavy whipping cream mixed with a hand held blender for 2 minutes.  Sugar added to taste.  Boom, deliciousness found.]

pumpkin spice chai latte.. looks so good!

The chai gives the drink a little kick that is sure to get you going in the morning.  Or afternoon.  Or whenever you decide you want pumpkin and caffeine to collide on your taste buds.  [Trust me, its a good thing.]  The recipe above makes one cup so if you are a multi cup drinker but sure to double or triple it.

Its pumpkin spice latte time!

Lets recap.  Pumpkin – check.  Caffeine – check.  Homemade whipped cream – check.  Cheaper yet tastier version of a classic drink – check, check, check!.  And that my friends, is a great start to fall.

  1. I adore pumpkin too! During the month of October I roast, puree, and freeze a couple pumpkins a week to last the year. I am going to have to try adding the chai lattee mix. I use this recipe to make my own pumpkin coffee creamer http://urbanposer.blogspot.com/2011/09/real-pumpkin-spice-steamer-dairysoy.html

  6. Sounds yummy! Maybe a silly question…but isn’t chai a tea drink… I don’t think there’s any coffee in it? :)

    • It is a tea! But I used a chai latte mix – so there was some coffee in there somewhere. ;)

      • Even in a chai latte mix there is no coffee, not even in the Starbucks one. Latte doesn’t mean coffee. What we call a latte is actually a shortened version of caffè latte which means “milk coffee”. So latte actually means milk. Just wanted to clarify for anyone who may be trying to avoid coffee. This is a coffee free beverage, so enjoy!
